Offices of Sahitya Akademi

Head Office

The Head Office of the Sahitya Akademi is housed in Rabindra Bhavan, 35 Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi. This building was constructed in 1961 to commemorate the birth centenary of Rabindranath Tagore, and houses all the three National Akademis, namely, the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the Lalit Kala Akademi and the Sahitya Akademi. The Head Office is responsible for publishing publications and organizing programmes in ten languages, that is, Dogri, English, Hindi, Kashmiri, Maithili, Nepali, Punjabi, Rajasthani, Sanskrit and Urdu.

 

Regional Office, Kolkata

The Regional Office of Sahitya Akademi at Kolkata was set up in 1956 and is located at 4 D.L. Khan Road, Kolkata. The Regional Office of Kolkata is responsible for publications and programmes in Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Manipuri, Odia and Santali, along with programmes in other North- East Indian languages. The Regional Office of Kolkata also maintains a library.

 

Regional Office, Bengaluru

The Regional Office of Sahitya Akademi at Bengaluru was established in 1990. The southern regional was originally established in Chennai in 1959 and was later shifted to Central College Campus, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Veedhi, Bengaluru in 1990. This Regional Office is responsible for the publications and programmes in Kannada, Malayalam and Telugu. This regional office also maintains a library.

 

Sub-Regional Office, Chennai

The Southern Regional Office was set up in Chennai in 1959 and was later converted to a Sub-regional office in 1990 with the shifting of Regional Office to Bengaluru. Chennai Sub-regional office is responsible for programmes and publications in Tamil and is located at Guna Complex, Main Building, (II Floor) Rear Side, 443 (Old No. 304) Anna Salai, Teynampet, Chennai.

 

Regional Office, Mumbai

The Regional Office of Sahitya Akademi at Mumbai was set up in 1972 and is located at 172, Mumbai Marathi Grantha Sangrahalya Marg, Dadar, Mumbai. It looks after the publications and programmes in Gujarati, Konkani, Marathi and Sindhi. This regional office also maintains a library.
