Journals of Sahitya Akademi
Sahitya Akademi publishes three literary journals of international repute, one each in English, Hindi & Sanskrit.
English literary journal Indian Literature is published once in two months as is Hindi journal Samkaleen Bhartiya Sahitya. The Sanskrit literary journal, Samskrita Pratibha is published every quarter.
All the three journals publish translations from 23 other languages apart from the creative writing in the language of the journal.
Indian Literature is being published uninterrupted from 1957, Samskrita Pratibha from 1959 & Samkaleen Bhartiya Sahitya from 1980.
Indian Literature
Indian Literature, Sahitya Akademi’s bimonthly literary journal, is India’s oldest and the only journal of its kind featuring translations in English of poetry, fiction, drama and criticism from twenty-three Indian languages besides original writing in English.
There is hardly any significant Indian author who has not been featured in the pages of this journal that has completed 63 years of service to the cause of Indian Literature.
Indian Literature offers a feast of literature with unique sections, such as ‘Heritage’ and ‘Classics’. Other special features of the journal include novel excerpts, travelogue, autobiography, book reviews, author interviews, and tributes to writers. Indian Literature is also highly valued as a source of reference in India and abroad and is an essential for libraries and for discriminating readers, researchers and students of creative and critical literature.
Submission Guidelines for Indian Literature
Those who wish to publish their writings or translations:
Poems (about 6 to 8) and short stories in English translation or English, and critical articles (not exceeding 6000 words and following MLA style of referencing) may be sent to Indian Literature by email as Word attachment, to indianlit@sahitya-akademi.gov.in along with a six-line bio of the author and the translator. English translations of poetry and fiction must be accompanied by a letter of permission from the original author granting permission to publish the translations in Indian Literature. All submissions must be unpublished pieces.

Publishers who wish to get their books reviewed:
Sahitya Akademi accepts book for reviews from publishers only. Indian Literature carries reviews of books of poetry, fiction, non-fiction prose & criticism only, in English or in English translation. Those publishers who wish to get their books reviewed in Indian Literature should send two copies of their books to The Editor, Indian Literature, Sahitya Akademi, Rabindra Bhawan, 35, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi 110 001. All reviews are commissioned and unsolicited reviews will not be entertained. Those books that are not reviewed in Indian Literature are sent to the multilingual library of Sahitya Akademi in Rabindra Bhavan for acquisition.

Samkaleen Bhartiya Sahitya
Samkaleen Bhartiya Sahitya is one of India’s premiere literary journals in Hindi and the journal covers a wide range of genres such as poetry, fiction, Satire, Short Stories, essays, Interview, memories, reportage, book reviews etc and caters to almost all sections of reading public and scholars. The journal also carries special issues pertaining to literature contained in specific languages, selections of echoes from the past, modern and post-modern literature in Hindi.

Samskrita Pratibha
The Sahitya Akademi publishes Samskrita Pratibha, a Sanskrit quarterly journal, devoted to contemporary creative writings in Sanskrit. It was started in 1959 under the editorship of V. Raghavan.
The main aim of this journal is to promote the writings in Sanskrit with a bird eye view. This is the oldest Sanskrit journal in India in post-independence era that publishes creative articles both in Poetry and Prose apart from translations from 23 languages.
Submission Guidelines for Samskrita Pratibha
All creative articles such as poems, Ghazals, Short Stories, one act plays, Dramas etc may be contributed. Sahitya Akademi encourages the Poetry translation from other languages to Sanskrit language.
Sanskrit research articles will not be published in this journal.
All articles may be sent to Sanskrit section by email as word attachment, to ds.pub1@sahitya-akademi.gov.in along with a five-line bio data of the author or translator. Sanskrit translation of Poetry or prose must be accompanied by a letter of permission from the original author granting permission to publish the translation in Samskrita Pratibha.
