Marathi Santkaviyitrincha Itihas, edited by Vidyasagar Patangankar, noted scholar of saint-literature in Marathi, brilliantly introduces, and analytically discusses the poetry of the woman saint-poets in Marathi from the 12th century to the 19th century, and demonstrates that the genuinely significant expression, in simple and colloquial language, of all the woman saint-poets is the inner voice of the oppressed. This poetry is a cultural legacy of Maharashtra, and the one end of the stream of which is found to be tied to folk songs by women, and the other could be related to contemporary feminist literature of the day.
