Description

Chakshushalya  is a Marathi translation by Shankar Balaji Shastri of Rabindranath Thakur’s original Bengali Chokher Bali, the novel held to be the first modern novel in Bengali. In an extremely engaging and magical narrative technique, typical of the literary giant, the novel resolves around the independent thinker and rebellious central character – Binodini, and creatively explores into the struggle between orthodox social customs and sensitive, conscious minds that invariably causes intermittent ripples of complexities in human relationships, depicted here with unbelievable creative upswing and deep sensitivity by the master story-teller, by unfailingly touching upon some of the prevalent social issues like child marriage, gender hierarchy , etc.
