Athikramanam is the Malayalam translation of the Sahitya Akademi’s award winning Kannada novel written by Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa, an eminent Kannada novelist.  Daatu was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for the year 1975. The Book has story which goes through the complex caste system that is deep rooted into Indian society demonstrated through the characters.  Set predominantly in rural village Tirumalapura of Tumkur district of the Karnataka state in India, this gripping and passionate narrative centres  Satyabhama, daughter of a Brahmin priest, who chooses to follow her own impulses rather than submit to stipulations of caste, which prevent her marrying the man Srinivasa she loves and her pursuit is assailed with agonizing hardship. This book has been translated to 14 major Indian languages.
