Jnaneswari is the Bengali translation by Girishchandra Sen of Jnanadeva’s commentary in Marathi on the Bhagavadgita. This is one of the oldest surviving literary works in the Marathi language, under the patronage of the Yadava dynasty of Devagiri, and is considered to be a milestone in Marathi literature. SantJnanadeva’s ideas reflect the non-dualistic Advaita Vedanta philosophy and an emphasis on Yoga and oneness of Vishnu and Shiva, but an ardent devotee of Lord Vitthala (a form of Lord Vishnu) of Pandharpur. This way of explaining Bhagavadgita is yet to be widely known in Bengali bhakti cult.
