Saraswatichandra by Govardhanram Tripathi, is an abridged English translation by Vinod Meghani ofSaraswatichandra originally written by Govardhanram Tripathi in Gujarati, which comprises of nearly 2000 pages in four volumes, and considered not only the greatest modern Gujarati classic, but it also embodied an epoch of life in Gujarat in all its idealistic aspirations as well as practical limitations. Umashankar Joshi once wrote about the work, “the author’s gusto, learnedness, religiosity, ascetic inclination etc. have, like bees drawing from flowers to build a honeycomb, swarmed the literary worlds—Gujarati, Sanskrit and English—as well as the folklore to metamorphose this work of fiction into a profuse hive.”
