The Himalaya: A Cultural Pilgrimage by Dattaytreya Balkrishna Kalelkar, considered as a classic of Gujarati literature, is more than a mere chronicle of a Himalayan pilgrimage. The author has used it as a vehicle to roam the vast landscape of Indian history and culture. The series of articles in the book were originally written for a handwritten monthly publication at the Sabarmati Ashram, mainly to satisfy the wishes of author’s coworkers and students. The physical journey described here happened in a two-month stretch in 1912.
